Back to School #WalmartFrugalHeroes Challenge

Pin It I took part in the #WalmartFrugalHeroes Back to School Challenge on August 22nd. My challenge was to outfit two kids for back to school on only $100.

I was determined to outfit my boys because they both have grown SO MUCH over the last few months and we are finding it nearly impossible to keep up.

So with my $100 gift card in hand we headed off shopping with the boys. There were tons of great choices as far as shirts went. Both of my boys could have easily come home with dozens and dozens of shirts and hoodies and been perfectly happy.

We had a much harder time finding pants though. Apparently everyone in my town is the exact same size as my boys because there were tons of jeans in the sizes both above and below but we only found a few pairs of jeans in what we were looking for. Fortunately we only needed a couple pairs for Owen.

We also found a few pairs of "soft" pants for Aiden since he won't wear a lot of clothes with hard seams etc.. Walmart has actually always been really good for finding affordable clothing that Aiden will wear- even with his Autism sensory issues.

After shopping for awhile the boys finally settled on 3 outfits each. Aiden chose more expensive t-shirts so Owen was even able to choose a hoodie along with his 3 $4 shirts.

All of our purchases came to a total of $95.55 with tax.

Mission accomplished!

Disclosure: I received a $100 Walmart Gift Card to take part in the #WalmartFrugalHeroes Challenge. The opinions are my own.

Rain, Mosquitoes and a Yurt

Pin It We went camping this past week.

We stayed in a Yurt.

Do you know what a yurt is?

Well, let me tell you- it is a wonderful thing. A yurt is a device that saves you from insanity. That's what it is.

This is what a yurt looks like...

This was not our exact yurt but ours looked almost exactly like that.

Ours had bunk beds inside - enough that all 5 of us had a place to sleep.

It also had power and a heater.

Which is a very good thing when it doesn't stop raining the entire week you are camping and it is ridiculously cold and the bugs are just out of control and you really need a place to hide from the rain and cold and bugs.

In reality we had a very good week...despite the killer mosquitoes and the rain and cold. It was nice to get away and to be offline and to just be together as a family.

It would have been nice if the sun had come out to play and if we could have spent some time swimming and playing at the beach as well... but exploring trails at the incredibly beautiful park was still great.

This is a picture my husband took during one of the brief breaks in the rain...

I told you it was lovely.

Now we have returned to reality and the land of the internets and I kind of want to escape back to our yurt.

Except this time with sunshine and no bugs please.
