A racecar game. This game is an arcade style racing game. Activision says this about the game:
Break free from the ovals and explode onto the pavements, beaches and off-road areas of some of the most beloved NASCAR® sanctioned race tracks. See the sights, feel the salty ocean breeze and blast past the lofty skyscrapers; it’s a whole new world of NASCAR racing! Players will fight their way to be the best as NASCAR Unleashed brings the fun and excitement off the track and into your house.
So on and off road it is. You are rewarded for smashing and bashing both the track and the other cars. If you smash a car often enough, it becomes a rival and tries to get you back. Power drifting is also rewarded greatly. There’s jumps and all kinds of things to run into and over. You can do power doughnuts on the track (although it doesn’t seem to like you driving backwards through the map...)
This game is pretty good fun. The drifting mechanics take some getting used to and might be difficult for younger players. That being said the handling is very forgiving make it easy to get around the track. There’s lots to do with championship racing (player against the computer racers), time trials (player against the clock), and splitscreen multiplayer. You can get some neat jumps and the first time you make it it does a neat Hollywood style replay of your showmanship.
I think this game would be great to play with a friend. It’s a good diversion for solo play. This game is rated “E” and would be a good Christmas gift for anyone who might enjoy car games.
