KidDesktop review & GIVEAWAY!! CLOSED

This giveaway is now CLOSED! Congratulations to Brittany for winning.

I'd like to tell you about KidDesktop- an amazingly kid-friendly desktop that allows your child to navigate the Internet safely. KidDesktop is geared towards kids ages 3-7 so we figured it would be perfect for our sons Aiden (age 7) and Owen (age 5) and I gladly agreed to review it.

KidDesktop was super easy to install and set-up. You definitely do NOT need to be a computer genius to figure it out. The instructions were clear, concise, and very easy to follow!

My sons have both enjoyed using KidDesktop. We were able to customize a different start screen for each of my sons. They LOVE that they can navigate to their favourite sites all on their own without having to ask for help. I love that too :) And it is PERFECT for non-readers or not-quite-proficient readers too- when you mouse over an icon KidDesktop reads it outloud for your child!

I really enjoyed hearing my son Aiden teach his younger brother Owen how to use the program. It really is THAT easy to use! Most of you know that Aiden has some special needs and we have found that KidDesktop works exceedingly well for him. He is able to use it without getting frustrated and that helps ALL of us out :)

I love that I don't have to worry about them finding any inappropriate content either. KidDesktop blocks unauthorized pop up windows and downloads which keeps them from accidentally ending up where they don't belong. We have had problems with my son getting into other programs and files on our computer and generally wreaking havoc but KidDesktop makes it so that he can't access our files or programs. Perfect!

The customized KidDesktop start screen is brilliant. We were able to select the specific web sites that we wanted our kids to be able to access. Each web site we chose was given a separate little icon on their customized activity bar so they could easily identify which one to "click". It was super easy to add web sites and even make a YouTube playlist of specifically chosen videos they could watch.

My sons were able to download their own pictures and view them as well. All they had to do was connect their camera to the computer and a little icon appeared for them to click. They program makes it possible for them to view their pictures and even rotate them but they could NOT permanently change or delete them.

One of my favourite features of KidDesktop is the clock/timer function. No more worrying that your kid will spend too much time on the computer- simply set the timer. This also works amazingly well for helping my sons SHARE the computer! The timer counts down minute by minute and when 5 minutes are left it turns red so my son was able to SEE that his turn was almost up. Aiden especially needs transition time and the visual reminder made it much easier for us to transition between kids.

My one complaint with KidDesktop is that it is not MAC friendly and since we have both a MAC and a PC in our house it did limit which computer the boys could use. You must have Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Vista, 300 MHZ Processor and 256MB of RAM.

KidDesktop is very reasonably priced and can be purchased for $19.95, with no additional annual fee.

They also offer a fabulous 10-day full-featured trial version of KidDesktop for FREE.

I am absolutely in love with KidDesktop and definitely recommend it!

I'd like to let my daughter try this out. Her dad is a professional computer nerd and she tells him she wants to learn to fix people's computers too. I think they could bond over a product like this!

Now that my five-year-old can read, she really wants to navigate the Internet alone. This would be perfect for her.

Thanks for the great review! I think this would be perfect for my 3 yr old. All the older kids have their computers and have set them up the way they want and he has already learned the basics. This would be great for his computer he's getting for his birthday! All of my kids are very computer literate and so anything that is geared toward the younger bunch is a good thing!

I would like to win this for my daughter. She is always watching mommy on the computer and I am so afraid to let her on by herself because there is too much bad content on computers nowadays. This seems like a great product.
