This week my boys built a spaceship in my backyard.

This is Aiden explaining how it works to me.

Olivia really wanted to make this into a necklace but it didn't work.

As I'm sure most of you have figured out I review books and products sometimes. I really enjoy doing it. Some of the products get delivered by UPS. Unfortunately the particular UPS person who delivers to my home seems to be unable to read my address. They keep delivering my packages to my neighbour down the street- FAR down the street.

He came about an hour ago to hand me about the 8th package in the past couple weeks and he is ticked.

I can tell.

So I am apologizing to the poor man and assuring him I will call UPS and everyone else to help clarify where I live. Perhaps I should add my house colour to the packing slip. Or "just look for the overweight crazy lady with three kids hanging off her saying no and whining".

As the very kind gentleman is returning to his truck my children run outside after him. My daughter is partially clothed. My son Owen is sticking his tongue out and making weird faces. My son Aiden was in his UNDERWEAR!!! I told them to go back inside and Aiden looked at me and said NO then ran after the poor fleeing man in the truck.

I think I have been very patient with Aiden's need to remove his pants promptly upon arriving home from school. I realize school is stressful for him and he just wants to be comfortable. I get it. Life is stressful for me and I don't wander around in MY underwear but that is not the point. He KNOWS he is not allowed to go outside in his underwear. Ever. And certainly not to chase an unsuspecting neighbour down the road in defiance.

I. WAS. SO. MAD.

I brought my two youngest offspring into the house and told them to stay put while I went out to my front deck to scream at my son to come back in the house RIGHT THIS MINUTE!!! As soon as he got inside I yelled at him and sent him to his bed. Of course Owen had to get into the action by sticking his tongue out at me and calling me a loser so he also got sent to his bed.

Then I called their father and informed him that he had to come home RIGHT NOW before I throttled our children.

And he did.

And I called the UPS people and told them to learn to read.

She assured me she would give my message to our local delivery office.

Ya. Right.

See ya next week poor unsuspecting neighbour. I promise to try and keep my partially clothed offspring from chasing after you again. I really am so very sorry.

Apparently I am raising barbarians.

Good to know.

First Day of School

It went ok!

One More Sleep

His school bag is packed with all of his supplies labelled with his name. He has chosen his outfit and I have made sure it is clean. We have spent all summer talking about grade 1 and his new teacher and how it will be new and different but VERY cool.

We are prepared.

And oh how I hope and pray he LOVES it! I so want him to enjoy school. Or at least not hate it.

You know, as incredibly excited as I am for my kids to GO TO SCHOOL I still feel nervous for them.

But I simply MUST share with you all the MOST hilarious haiku I have EVER read-

Creative tunnelling

My sons are seriously creative. This is what they built in our back yard today.


Well... my husband set up the tent but they did the rest!

It is amazing what you can build with lawn chairs and blankets.

All three of my kids had a lot of fun with this today.

We took them swimming after for one last swim before our local pool closes for the winter. Today was a really nice family day together.

Of course I got nothing else done but oh well... it's all about priorities my friends.

I did it.

I finally finished off Aiden's assessment forms and sent them in.

26 pages later I am very tired.

My hope now is that SOMEONE will DO something!!!

We also have an appointment with a pediatrician in another town next week which will hopefully garner some helpful resources.

I need a nap.

The Joy of a job well done.

You know how sometimes you wake up in the morning and you have a PLAN. In this plan you will ACCOMPLISH many things. You will also become (miraculously) the perfect mother, wife, and housekeeper in the 8 seconds before you drag your sorry self out of bed. By the end of the day you will have COMPLETED your to do list. You will feel FULFILLED and SATISFIED.

ya. that is totally what I felt like this morning for about a millisecond BEFORE I got out of bed.

INSTEAD I spent the entire day playing catch up. I always felt one step behind where I was supposed to be. I also watched all the cleaning I did yesterday get destroyed by 9 am. And had I miraculously turned into the world's best housekeeper that would not have been a problem. Tragically, I was still just me. And as "just me" I was terribly disappointed when all manner of things were dropped, spilled, trod on, and mushed into the floors I HAND WASHED yesterday.

Yes... I actually got down on my hands and knees and scrubbed my floors. I even wiped down my cupboards (I was truly amazed at the amount of ick on my cupboard doors... how does it all get there?? Are the cats chucking stuff at my cupboard doors during the night? Do theives break in to steal all our amazing stuff and once they realize we don't have any amazing stuff decide to smear ick on my cupboard doors in revenge?).

But I can now say with authority that it was a complete waste of time. I might just as well have left everything as it was because if you looked at my floors today you would never have known they were spotless for 30 nanoseconds yesterday.

I tried valiantly to get all my paperwork done and bills paid and papers filed and I actually managed to get two things done... out of about a hundred. But still, 2 down 98 to go.

My sons, however, had a VERY productive day. They built this fabulous "machine" in my living room...
which they were exceedingly proud of... and most annoyed at Olivia for wanting to touch it. In her defence the "machine" was made out of mostly her toys. I am continually amazed by my sons' creativity and my daughter's determination to destroy their handiwork.

I am LESS amazed by the mess their creativity creates in my house...
the poor "machine" didn't have a chance.

And so, as I near the very end of my day, I can say with utmost confidence Super Mom does NOT live here. But if you see her around please send her over because I have some floors that need scrubbing.
